The founder of the ICI (David Pinto) is not only the originator of the concept ‘doodknuffelen’ (cuddling to death), but also of the concept ‘Inburgering’ (citizen habituation).
The ICI provides therefore courses to help settle in the Netherlands.
(known in Dutch as ‘inburgeringscursussen’)
As early as 1979 Prof. Pinto pleaded, as a advisor of education for foreign language speakers, for the introduction of ‘settling-in’ courses (‘Inburgering’).
His book ‘Het virus cultuurverschillen’ (The virus of cultural differences) from 1994, ISBN, 90-313-1793-4, ended with the same plea. In this he explains the necessity of settling-in contracts, between the government and the migrant.
Hereby sketch Pinto the need for integration contracts and minimum eight points to which such a contract must comply.
Fashion Company From entirely different order, but the fuller picture here, that the consultative role of the ICI, a few years ago, setting up a Fashion Company brought with them. We were by the then Labour and the Municipality of Groningen asked to advice about the then prevailing high unemployment among young people. And an annex sewing Fashion Company was the result. There were young people (native and immigrant, according to our condition), trained for this business. It was such a success that it became a Private Company (BV). And when the success was even greater, and this B.V. threatened all the time and attention to requirements, she was sold. However, because of the excellent contacts and relationships built up in the 'Fashion World', are still two areas of activity, commissioned by major foreign fashion companies, deployed: delivering models and mediation with banks for funding.
